My research is in the area Biology Education, and serves to advance
the Department of Biology's commitment to increases in student learning.
I am developing a web-based, interactive method for teaching known
as "Just-in-Time" Biology similar to the successful "Just-in-Time"
Physics curriculum at IUPUI. This project is supported by the National
Science Foundation's Division of Undergraduate Education (NSF DUE).
My research goals are to develop ways to reinforce the content students
are exposed to in lecture, help students develop the intellectual
skills needed to understand science and the scientific process,
and to continually establish connections concerning the relationship
of biology and the scientific method to society. I am also involved
in a collaborative project funded by the Lilly Endowment focused
on improving the educational success of Central Indiana High School
students as they make the transition to Post-Secondary (University)
education.
